GIACHROMA

Concept
A book presenting 144 art works, by 15 artists, who were driven or inspired by the impulse to archive and organize visual information. Works are arranged by color on 213 pages. This book draws directly on the impossible desire to concentrate the infinite worlds of knowledge and visual understanding in a single space. Similar to the absurd notion of an Encyclopedia Galactica or a Library of Babel, the book will make the bold statement of being complete in itself.

Created as Bachelor Thesis at Parsons, The New School for Design.

In reality no such thing as a complete encyclopedia collection can exist, and the book will constantly hint at that. Knowledge can not be stored, after all all knowledge is ultimately subjective. My knowledge is not your knowledge. The reader/viewer goes on an odyssey of a mind and at the same time draws entirely different conclusions and insights from the experience than the next person.

The book will contain a selective collection of design and art work along with a variety of insightful, often poetic writings. The graphic design structure will weave together art projects, photos and sketches, diary excerpts, fairy tales, and fables, book excerpts and short stories as well as critical essays on contemporary art and society as a whole. Another visual system to draw connection between visuals and text, moving the reader through the book in a non-chronological manner.
